Terracotta City – Ceramic For The Real World

100 years ago, Jatiwangi began its clay-civilization as the roof-tile producer region and became the biggest in Southeast Asia. 100 years later, with the same clay, in 2005 Jatiwangi Art Factory (JaF) use it to encourage people to have a collective awareness of identity for its  region through arts and cultural activity. JaF tried to cultivate clay with more dignity, to raise the collective happiness through an event involving the enthusiasm of thousands of people.

Terracotta City is the idea of developing the historical background of Jatiwangi from its traditional landscape of the roof-tile industry to a new cultural identity for the future; Terracotta City. ICCB is the point zero for Jatiwangi; the beginning of new clay-civilization, building the future of Jatiwangi as a terracotta city; a city based on the people’s desire.

Based on its identity that has been built and their collective agreement, Jatiwangi has the opportunity to transform its region into Terracotta City. The terracotta city is not only about creates the artistic products, but also try to invite various stakeholders, entrepreneurs, and government, to jointly think and to bring the Terracotta City idea into the real world.
